City of Roseville - Part 2

Roseville - Picking Up Where They Left Off

Project Description and Need

Roseville, the largest city in Placer County, is growing and expanding. If driving through Roseville, you might notice the ease of navigating around town due to their well-laid network of major arterial roadways. These larger streets provide both vehicular as well as active transportation throughout the area connecting residents with their local schools, commercial and even industrial zones. However, there was one notable gap in the system. Roseville Parkway stopped abruptly as soon as it hit Washington Boulevard (the road that the City famously reconstructed with concrete pavement in 2018), only to start again near Foothills Boulevard about 3,500 lineal feet away. In between the two streets lies the Union Pacific Railroad tracks that the City was literally built upon. The solution – a bridge over the tracks, and some long-lasting concrete pavement connecting the rest.

Above: The City and Contractor worked diligently together to figure out the task of aligning the joints (lines) that go into concrete; not only across the pavement, but the bike path, the gutter, the curb, and the sidewalk. That’s not easy to do, but so satisfying to see!

Above: The section of Roseville Parkway that is being built connects the two ends that are currently separated due to the railroad tracks down the middle.

Here are some fun facts about the project listed by the City on their LinkedIn Page:

∙        It connects Washington Boulevard to Foothills Boulevard

·        220,000 tons of soil was moved to elevate the road to bridge the train tracks

·        The bridge foundation required 54 deep drilled piers

·        Pedestrian and bike accessibility are priority features of the project
